The people behind the products
Designed by a quad for other quads. Born and bred in Hamilton, New Zealand, Phil broke his neck playing the national game of rugby. His lived experience as a complete C5 quadriplegic has formed an innovative adaptive lifestyle since his accident in 1996. Passionate about making life easier for Phil and those around him, Phil has developed many quad and carer friendly products.
The wheelchair jack was one of the earliest innovations born in response to multiple demands to swap his wheels regularly. As an avid hand cyclist, Phil would swap his e-motion wheels out for a more terrain friendly option. As a supportive Uncle, he would often be seen on the side lines of Saturday morning rugby, cheering on his nephews only to return home with mud caked wheels. Beyond the jack, Phil was inspired during NZ’s Covid Lockdowns to explore the rise in popularity of virtual cycling. Through collaboration with business partner Paul Quinn, what ensued was the creation of SiMAX, a quad friendly simulator that levels the playing field and turns participation into competition. The team is hugely passionate about the impact these products have which drives ongoing research and development into more ways of making quadriplegic life feel a little bit more normal.
